UCT Press publishes manuscripts of excellence from other tertiary institutions, and does not
confine itself to UCT academics.
We publish in print and digital formats and support open access delivery in principle.
UCT Press will not accept unsolicited manuscripts. Instead, authors are invited to complete the
publishing proposal form (download here) and send it to us with a sample chapter. Click here for submission guidelines.
UCT Press reserves the right to request a subsidy from its authors to assist with the production costs.
UCT Press may submit a publishing proposal for independent peer review. In addition, all
manuscripts are blind peer reviewed by at least two experts in the relevant field, including one
local and one international expert. Authors may be asked to identify potential reviewers.
A peer-review questionnaire is supplied to these reviewers to ensure key questions are
addressed. This is done prior to a commitment to publish.
The reviews are sent to the authors for comment and to address if appropriate. A written
author response is sent to the Editorial Board for final approval of a manuscript’s quality.
For Department of Higher Education subsidy accreditation purposes, a statement on the
nature of this peer review process undertaken prior to publication is included on the imprint page
of each book. UCT Press will also provide a letter confirming the peer-review process for each title
to each higher education institution at which the authors are based.
UCT Press draws on the sales and marketing expertise of its parent company, Juta, whose sales
consultants promote titles into academic and trade bookshops as well as to university lecturers
and libraries within Africa.
For sales and marketing outside Africa UCT Press endeavours to sell foreign rights but also has
international distribution networks.
